Pacific producer elected to Fairtrade Network of Asian Producers (NAP) board
The profile of Pacific Fairtrade producer groups has been raised significantly with the election of a Fijian representative to the Board of the Network of Asian Producers (NAP).
NAP had previously represented Fairtrade Certified producer groups in 10 countries across Asia. Now the Pacific region is part of this group with coffee and cocoa growers from Papua New Guinea and sugar growers from Fiji now joining the NAP member list.
After being elected at the network’s General Assembly in Chennai (India) earlier this month, Mohammed Habib of the Labasa Cane Producers Association in Fiji will now represent Pacific interests on the NAP Board.

Fairtrade ANZ’s Programme Manager - Producer Support & Relations, Maria Trogolo is delighted at the news.
“This has set the stage to further develop the Pacific Fairtrade community and their representation within the wider international Fairtrade system.
“Having a Fijian producer on the NAP Board is a great step forward for the Pacific, and will hopefully bring further benefits to farmer groups and whole communities in the region. We congratulate Mohammed on his election and know he will represent the interests of Pacific producers well” said Maria.
As well as Labasa, HOAC, and Huiwani, PNG cocoa producer group Adelberts and coffee grower groups Neknasi and Keto Tepasi are also members of the Network of Asian Producers.
